Three African countries agree to UK migrant returns after sanctions threat
Agreements with Namibia, Angola, and DRC follow UK threats of visa sanctions and could enable fast-track deportation of over 3,000 migrants, the Home Office said.
- A month after the threat, Namibia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo agreed to cooperate on migrant returns with the UK.
- The UK had warned it would stop granting visas if these countries did not improve cooperation on removals.
- Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said illegal migrants and criminals will now be removed and deported back to these countries.
