Thompson Singles in Winning Run in 9th, Rockies Beat Cubs 3-2
The rookie pinch hitter drove in the winning run after Ian Happ tied it with his 15th home run.
On Wednesday night in Denver, Colorado Rockies pinch hitter Sterlin Thompson lined a walk-off single off Chicago Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia to secure a 3-2 victory.
Cubs starter Shota Imanaga threw five scoreless innings, while Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen allowed only one earned run during his five-inning appearance at Coors Field.
Ian Happ tied the game with a 424-foot solo home run in the ninth, but TJ Rumfield's two-run homer in the eighth had given Colorado a 2-1 lead; Antonio Senzatela picked up the win.
The loss dropped the Cubs to.500 and secured their 10th consecutive series loss; Chicago has lost 22 of their past 29 games after starting the season 27-12.
Manager Craig Counsell admitted the team "didn't produce enough opportunities tonight," while outfielder Ian Happ said "we're going to cash out at some point, and we got to keep believing that.
