Meghan Markle’s Dad Finds Love with Younger Woman

On Saturday, retired Hollywood lighting director Thomas Markle, 81, revealed he is dating Rio Canedo, 46, a nurse he met while recovering from leg amputation surgery in Cebu, Philippines.
Markle relocated from Rosarito, Mexico, to the Philippines in early 2025 seeking a simpler lifestyle after his stroke, explaining, "After my stroke things were not great. I wanted to go to the other side of the world to a place where the people are kind."
Canedo manages Markle's health with a strict no-sugar diet and hydration for his pneumonia while he works in Cebu. "There are young trainee nurses here who we call the 'munchkins' and all I hear all day long are peels of laughter," he said.
Regarding his estranged daughter Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, Markle stated he has accepted the distance, saying, "I've accepted that some things can't be fixed." He emphasized his current life in the Philippines has brought him peace.
Despite public scrutiny regarding their age gap, Markle remains unbothered, stating, "Never too old to find peace and love." He hopes his story provides hope, adding, "There's nothing more important in life than love.
