The election in North Cyprus (recognised only by Turkey) has two protagonist candidates — the pro-Turkey ally of Erdoğan, Ersin Tatar, who insists that the only solution to the Cyprus problem is a two-state solution, and the pro-Europe opposition-backed Tufan Erhürman, who wants to return to negotiations based on a federal, reunited Cyprus.
One of the candidates running in the TRNC presidential elections is Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP). Although the office he aims to hold is called the TRNC Presidency, Erhürman doesn't have the word "TRNC" in his vocabulary.
TRNC Supreme Election Board President Bertan Özerdağ stated that the software program to be used in the election is not subject to external intervention.
