Dozens of Rural Nevada Mail Ballots Discovered After Primary
Election officials say the 32 ballots were cast on time, but USPS flagged them as undeliverable and sent them weeks late.
Thirty-Two ballots from Nevada's June primary were not counted after the United States Postal Service incorrectly flagged them as undeliverable, despite the envelopes bearing the correct Lyon County address.
Lyon County Clerk-Treasurer Staci Lindberg's office noted the envelopes were correctly addressed to a location operating for more than 30 years, marking the county's most significant mail delivery issue since documenting more than 200 such problems since 2023.
Election officials conducted a certified count confirming 32 ballots: 24 from Dayton and eight from Fernley. Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar is investigating the incident.
Secretary of State Aguilar sought assistance from Gov. Joe Lombardo, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, and Senate Minority Leader Robin Titus, stating "this failure is on USPS."
The Postal Service committed to preventing future incidents, while Senate Minority Leader Robin Titus told The Nevada Independent on Thursday that officials are "still unraveling the information" and the incident raises "concerns on multiple levels.
