Thick fog to create dangerous driving conditions for UK commuters
High pressure will ease winds and bring calmer weather, but dense fog could linger for hours and reduce visibility for commuters, forecasters said.
The Met Office confirmed that the area of low pressure affecting the United Kingdom will pull away Tuesday evening, allowing conditions to turn calmer from Wednesday.
Driven by a powerful jet stream, storms Austen and Boelo recently brought destructive winds and heavy rain to large parts of the United Kingdom over the weekend.
Multiple flights were cancelled and "do not travel" warnings issued across Greater Manchester, where storms caused 146 power cuts and falling trees blocked numerous roads.
High pressure building from Wednesday will ease winds and bring drier conditions; the Met Office warns that light winds increase the likelihood of dense fog patches that may take hours to lift.
Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates stated a "significant change" is arriving, with high pressure expected to bring a quieter and largely drier end to the week for many.
