Iranian drones knew exactly where the Strike Eagle was and US never saw them? All you need to know
Iran may have revealed a frightening new way to hunt America’s most advanced combat aircraft. Reports say a network of Iranian drones tracked a U.S. F-15E over southern Iran, feeding its location, speed and direction to forces on the ground before the jet was struck. The pilot later reportedly described a bizarre “jellyfish” formation of interconnected drones filling the night sky. What followed was an enormous U.S. rescue operation involving hu…
New data on the loss of a US F-15E point to a much simpler tactic than expected: using cheap drones to locate the hunt and then guide the attack from the ground
Iran is said to have located a US-F-15E with the help of several drones in April. Development shows how quickly Tehran adapts its tactics – while the US lacks interceptor missiles.
Iran is adapting its war strategy to supply part of its weakened traditional surveillance systems. The F-15E downfall shows this evolution, which analyst Andrés Gómez de la Torre sums up as follows: “It is moving from a large radar-based air defense to a war of small sensor networks and drone swarms.”
During the war that began with attacks by the US and Israel, it was reported that Iran tracked a US warplane with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Using the speed, location, and direction information provided by the UAVs, defense systems shot down the aircraft.
The New York Times reported that drones played a role in targeting the US F-15E fighter jet that Iran shot down in April 2026. According to US officials, the drones detected the aircraft's position, speed, and direction, and transmitted this data to ground-based air defense systems. The method is said to be linked to tactics used in the Russia-Ukraine war, and the pilot reportedly saw a formation of drones he nicknamed "jellyfish" before the pla…
