'This Is How They Take Revenge': Mann Targets Centre on Being 'Detained' at Delhi Airport
Bhagwant Mann said customs detained him for two hours and fined him Rs 50,000, calling the action revenge over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s family.
On Friday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann linked a Rs 50,000 penalty imposed on him at Delhi airport to the family of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging deliberate harassment.
Mann's return from France followed a political flashpoint when the Centre denied clearance, triggering a confrontation between the AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party over the customs action.
Manish Kumar, brother of Kumar, heads the Delhi Customs Zone, Mann alleged; officials told him "there was a lot of pressure on them" before issuing the penalty during his two-hour detention.
Mann referenced Medha Roopam, Kumar's daughter and Noida District Magistrate, linking her to the alleged harassment and noting the Supreme Court previously scrutinized her for arresting a 16-year-old girl in Noida.
Regarding future travel, Mann expressed interest in attending a World Punjabi Conference in Lahore on November 27 but questioned whether authorities would permit attendance given recent hurdles.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has described his detention at Delhi airport after returning from Paris as an act of revenge. He claimed that the airport customs head is the brother of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Mann alleged that officials are trying to tarnish his image.
