Missing Man's Body Found Below Grand Canyon's South Rim; Investigation Remains Open
Park officials said the death of the 26-year-old ASU graduate student remains under investigation by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
On Saturday, May 9, National Park Service personnel recovered the body of 26-year-old Sandarsh Krishna near Verkamp's Visitor Center below the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
Family members last heard from Krishna on April 27 before he was reported missing on April 28 during a last-minute trip to the South Rim.
Park service statistics show 11 people died in Grand Canyon National Park in 2025, with personnel responding to 848 emergency medical incidents, 444 hiker assists, and 232 search and rescue missions.
The Coconino County Medical Examiner and National Park Service are investigating the incident, though officials have not released Krishna's cause of death.
According to his family, Krishna was a computer science graduate student at Arizona State University on track to receive his master's degree this month with a job already lined up.
