Junts deputy and former minister Josep Rull elected as new President of the Parliament of Catalonia with support from pro-independence parties. Rull was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in 2017 referendum and independence declaration, but was pardoned by Spanish government. Appointments maintain pro-independence majority on board.

Catalan separatists, who suffered defeat in regional elections in mid-May and lost their majority in the regional parliament, won a parliamentary speaker today.
