Freedom Fuel Won Praise From Trump for Selling Cheap Gas. Now a Supplier Claims It Got Gas It Didn’t Pay For
Mansfield Oil says KRSM took 1.1 million gallons of fuel without paying, and the company claims the gas was resold through Freedom Fuel.
- On August 19, Georgia-based Mansfield Oil Company sued KRSM Inc. in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleging the fuel supplier failed to pay for approximately 1.1 million gallons of fuel valued at about $4 million supplied to Freedom Fuel Network between May 21 and July 7.
- President Donald Trump previously championed the Freedom Fuel Network as a "very smart" retailer, praising it for charging less because "they love the U.S.A." The chain expanded to 25 stations across the Greater Philadelphia Area ahead of the July 4 holiday.
- Court documents allege KRSM knowingly accepted fuel far exceeding its $150,000 credit limit; the companies had agreed payment was due within 10 days of delivery, yet Mansfield Oil's bank reported on July 28 that KRSM had refused draft payment requests.
- KRSM's lawyer Mauro Tucci disputed the allegations, calling the case "an accounting dispute over fuel invoices mis-priced by Mansfield Oil." A court-ordered preliminary injunction now requires KRSM to maintain a minimum of $2.75 million in its bank account throughout litigation.
- The lawsuit creates awkward political optics for President Trump, who publicly championed Freedom Fuel Network shortly before the July 4 holiday. Mansfield Oil alleged the retailer's discounted prices were funded by unpaid invoices rather than patriotic gestures.
