A Trip.com study shows 20% are motivated to travel Asia by TV and films highlighting scenery, landmarks, and culture, with 41% likely to visit within five years.
- Trip.com, an online travel agency, surveyed 2,000 adults and found film and TV motivated 20 per cent to travel to Asia, with Squid Game, The White Lotus, and Crazy Rich Asians driving bookings.
- Visual storytelling drives interest because respondents cite beautiful scenery , historical landmarks , and cultural traditions as key motivators within the media they consume.
- Of respondents, 41 per cent said they would likely travel to Asia in the next five years; Japan ranks highest at 35 per cent, followed by Thailand , Maldives , and Singapore .
- Fred Fishlock, Trip.com's UK country head, said "Visa-free travel has consistently proven to be one of the strongest catalysts for demand — particularly for long-haul routes and first-time travellers." China's 2023 visa-free policy corroborates this.
- In the coming years, Trip.com says the combination of popular culture and digital tools provides a strong foundation for sustained growth in Asia travel. Over 3 in 10 respondents want to visit more than five years ago.
