Around 17.50 at the door of the Sistine Chapel was closed thus officially giving way to the conclave for the election of the 267th Pope. A spontaneous applause arose from St. Peter's Square while Monsignor Diego Ravelli pronounced the Latin phrase "Extra Omnis" which officially enshrines the beginning of the conclave.
