TIMIȘOARA, January 6, 2026 – Today, on Christmas Eve according to the old rite, the Serbian community in Banat celebrated the lighting of the “badnjak”, the burning of oak branches in the churchyard, a traditional custom. The event took place in the evening in the courtyard of the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Unirii Square in Timișoara, where believers of all ages gathered to participate in the traditional ritual of burning the ceremonial oak.
