What Happened to Christian Pulisic? Inside USMNT Star's Injury Scare and World Cup Future
Christian Pulisic was withdrawn at halftime after a left calf blow, and Mauricio Pochettino said the decision was a precaution.
On Friday, United States star Christian Pulisic was substituted at halftime of the USA's 4-1 World Cup opening victory against Paraguay in Inglewood, California, after sustaining a blow to his left calf.
According to Coach Mauricio Pochettino, Pulisic had aggravated a similar calf issue during training days before the match, which was exacerbated after receiving another kick in the first half.
Pochettino revealed the forward 'could not walk' before the second half, prompting a last-minute decision to replace Pulisic with Sebastian Berhalter as a precautionary measure.
Taking 'a little bit of precaution,' Pulisic told reporters he remains positive about his recovery, saying he hopes to be fine in the next few days.
Australia faces the United States on Friday, June 19, in Seattle for their next Group D match, providing the team a full week to manage Pulisic's recovery.
