The rare Royal Mint 50p coin selling for more than 300 times its face value
The coin drew 19 bids after collectors prized its 210,000-coin mintage and design, which helped push the price to more than 300 times face value.
A rare Kew Gardens 50p coin sold for £157 on eBay this week after attracting 19 bids from collectors seeking the Royal Mint's prized piece.
Released in 2009 for the 250th anniversary, the Kew Gardens coin ranks among the Royal Mint's rarest pieces, with just 210,000 copies entering circulation during its initial release.
The design features the Chinese Pagoda at the Royal Botanic Gardens on the tails side, while a portrait of the Queen appears on the reverse.
Collectors are being urged to check their change, as the coin sold for more than 300 times its face value, signaling strong demand for rare denominations.
The Royal Mint has produced many collectible 50p designs over decades, including Olympic Wrestling, Olympic Football, and Olympic Judo coins, which also attract significant collector interest and value.
