New Satellite Images Show B-52 Bombers at U.S. Base Near Iran — But No Sign of B-2 Stealth Jets Needed for Fordo Strike
New satellite imagery of the Diego Garcia airbase – the closest one used by the US closest to Iran – appears to show 2 B-52 Stratfortress bombers and several transport aircraft. Of note, the only plane that can carry the bombs necessary to rip through the Fordo nuclear installation is the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, which isn’t at the base.
Israel's goal is to stop Iran's nuclear program, for which it is necessary to destroy the underground facility of Fordo. This facility is 90 meters deep. Israel's MPR 500 bombs failed, only America's GBU-57A/B bombs, which are dropped from B-2 stealth bombers, can destroy it. For this Israel needs American help.
If the U.S. decides to support Israel more directly in its attacks on Iran, one option for Washington would be to provide the large-pebbunker bombs believed to be necessary to significantly damage the Fordo uranium enrichment plant, which is built deep on a mountain.
