Thailand's 'Michael Jackson' Jailed over Deadly Drink-Driving Crash
The court also revoked his driving licence after finding he showed remorse and paid compensation to the victims' families.
On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, a Bangkok court sentenced singer Manasawin Nantasen, known as Tik Shiro, to two years in prison for drunk driving resulting in loss of life.
Driving across a Bangkok bridge in October 2024, the 64-year-old singer struck a stationary motorbike, killing a 28-year-old woman and knocking her 21-year-old brother off the bridge; he later died in hospital.
Manasawin provided beneficial testimony and attended the victims' funeral, paying compensation to their families. The court statement noted this remorse but ordered revocation of his driver's license.
While many Thais believe the rich and famous avoid accountability, Manasawin's sentencing contrasts sharply with Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya, who was never charged after a fatal 2012 crash.
According to the World Health Organization, Thailand ranks ninth out of 175 member countries for road traffic deaths, with 18,218 fatalities recorded in 2021, an average of 50 per day.
