Rockstar Games Confirms GTA 6 Map Size Is Way Bigger Than All of Its Previous Games

Rockstar says the new open world has far more interiors and could be nearly as large as GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.

  • Simon Parkin reported that the GTA 6 map is "nearly as large as the playable maps of GTA 4, GTA 5, and RDR 2 combined", with Vice City and surrounding areas providing dense environments for exploration.
  • Co-Development lead Aaron Garbut noted the game features "an order of magnitude more interiors" than earlier titles, reflecting developer ambitions to create a more expansive sandbox environment.
  • Each home features distinct details and signs of NPCs living there, allowing protagonists Jason and Lucia to get sidetracked exploring interiors while navigating Vice City's busy streets.
  • Players will not need to finish missions to reach far-off places, making it easy to get sidetracked in Vice City's busy streets and encouraging immediate free-roaming exploration.
  • The GTA VI OClock podcast confirmed fans can start exploring as soon as the game launches, with Rockstar Games positioning the title as a vast sandbox prioritizing player freedom.
