Politicians told ERR on Monday they were unaware of a new plan proposed by the Ministry of the Interior's plan to develop a nationwide surveillance network, supporting facial and license plate recognition. MPs said it is likely an initiative put forward by officials.

The text was adopted in the National Assembly by 303 votes to 135. The left voted against a bill violating a number of fundamental rights.

Very expected of professionals, but some of which are criticized by the left, this text was adopted by a last vote in the National Assembly, after a validation in the Senate on Monday.

The National Assembly is currently studying a bill to extend the algorithmic surveillance of conversations in order to detect suspicious behaviour, which, until then reserved for the fight against terrorism and the fight against drug trafficking, is criticized by those who see it as an invasive technique related to mass surveillance.
