King and Elba Celebrate Youth Musical Theatre
Idris Elba returned to the National Youth Music Theatre as the charity marked five decades of training and performances for young people.
On Thursday, King Charles and actor Idris Elba visited the National Youth Music Theatre in Victoria, London, to celebrate the organization's 50th anniversary.
Elba, an alumnus who attended the charity at age 18 using a grant from what was then The Prince's Trust, credited the organization for changing his life.
During the visit, the King observed musical theatre workshops and advised students that the best way to understand Shakespeare is to "actually act it," revealing he owns tap shoes.
Before watching a medley of songs, the King cut a cake marked "50" and met young performers like Tochi, 18, and Xanthe, 23, who called the visit "surreal."
Founder Jeremy James Taylor expressed he was "delighted" at the milestone, highlighting an organization that has supported alumni including Jude Law and Stephen Graham over 50 years.
