After Jana Mračková Vildumetzová resigned as Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region, the mayor of Sokolov became her successor.
Representatives of the Karlovy Vary Region elected Petr Kubis (ANO) as the new governor on Monday. He replaces Jana Mračková Vildumetzová (ANO), who resigned in November for family reasons. 29 out of 43 voting representatives voted for the new governor. ANO has 28 seats in the 45-member council.

Kubis is a former police officer and the acting mayor of Sokolov. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in October, but he gave up his parliamentary mandate.
