Thousands of people throughout Spain joined the call to observe a minute of silence over the death of Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old retired woman who was evicted in Madrid and became a symbol of the recent mass protests over the housing crisis in the country. Our correspondent, Elise Gazengel, told us how the day went on.
