In 2023 and 2024, U.S. dentists experienced increased dental supply expenses driven by international tariffs and a significant shortage caused by flood damage at Baxter’s manufacturing site in North Carolina.
These cost increases resulted from global supply disruptions, tariff hikes, and the flooding, which jointly raised the price of dental equipment and materials and threatened patient access.
In response to these difficulties, more than 1,500 dental professionals have become members of the Dental Success Network , established by Dr. Mark Costes, which provides collective buying power, professional development opportunities, and operational assistance to support independent dental practices.
Dr. Addison Killeen, a DSN coach, noted that while tariffs increase expenses, DSN helps mitigate these financial pressures by improving operational efficiency, emphasizing support that goes beyond simple cost-cutting measures.
The American Dental Association and partners warned in March 2025 that rising dental costs will reduce patient care access and urged tariff exemptions, while DSN continues to help dentists save over $20,500 annually and maintain independence.
