The stakes are one million euros a day, but Brussels claims that they have sat down at the negotiating table with the Hungarian side. While the Hungarian government is not giving up on its strict migration policy, a spokesperson for the European Commission clarified the room for maneuver the country has.
"What we are doing and can do on behalf of the committee is to consult closely and very constructively with the Hungarian authorities on the matter," the committee spokesperson said.
