EU urges Israel not to ramp up military attack on Gaza
- Finland's Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen urged Israel on May 6, 2025, not to expand its military attack on Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire.
- This appeal followed Israel's assault on Gaza that began on October 7, 2023, and ongoing concerns about escalating violence and humanitarian impact.
- The assault has caused over 52,500 Palestinian deaths, destroyed or damaged 92% of homes, and involved extensive use of aerial bombardment, bulldozers, and ground detonations.
- Valtonen emphasized on X that Israel should allow humanitarian aid to reach Gaza without obstruction and called on Hamas to free the remaining hostages without delay.
- The call highlights international concerns amid war crimes arrest warrants against Israeli leaders and ongoing genocide cases against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
