The guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN) have been attributed to the kidnapping of five policemen in the municipality of Tibu, in Norte de Santander, on 6 January, and have stated that "they are in good health" and that they will be given a "decent treatment" and the corresponding security guarantees.
