The electricity blackout in Spain reopens the debate on renewables and nuclears and disassembles that clean energy was to blame, a year after Europe’s biggest power failure in two decades. Lack of technical regulation, initial disinformation and political context turned the incident into an ideological rather than technical battle.

After the blackout of 28 April 2025, the Spanish Government divided blame between the operator of the national electricity network and the energy-producing companies, strengthened supervision and announced an increase in investments in infrastructure.
