MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which brings together lawmakers from 46 European nations, recognized WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as a political prisoner on Wednesday, a day after he gave testimony on his treatment by US and UK authorities.
According to the Council of Europe, Julian Assange was a political prisoner, and the USA and Great Britain were sharply criticized in a resolution. The WikiLeaks founder had previously made his first public appearance since his release.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) expressed, in a resolution adopted on Wednesday, its "deep concern" about the "disproportionately harsh treatment" faced by Julian Assange and said it had a "chilling effect dangerous," which undermines the protection of integrity journalists and whistleblowers around the world, reports AFP.
