On December 29, 1970, the worst snowstorm since 1917 paralyzes the north of the Mediterranean regions. While the snow already covers the entire middle Rhône valley, the sun's highway remains open, trapping 6000 cars over 53 km. It is near the disaster and it is quickly realized that this part of the motorway, opened for only 4 years, is desperately lacking an emergency plan for such a situation.
