Anthropic expands Claude's AI tools for law firms, lawyers
The new tools add legal plugins and MCP connectors that automate document review and drafting and link Claude to DocuSign, Box, and Westlaw.
- On Tuesday, Anthropic released 12 new legal practice plug-ins for Claude, including Model Context Protocol connectors designed to automate workflows across areas like commercial counsel, employment law, and litigation.
- Mark Pike, associate general counsel at Anthropic, cited an "incredible uptick in adoption of AI in the legal industry," with more than 20,000 people registering for a recent company webinar on legal work.
- The update enables secure connections to Thomson Reuters' Westlaw-enabled CoCounsel platform and content-management systems including Box, DocuSign, and Everlaw, allowing law firms to integrate Claude directly into their existing workflows.
- Thomson Reuters Chief Technology Officer Joel Hron said the integration allows customers to access CoCounsel's "fiduciary grade" legal research tools directly within Claude, connecting general-purpose AI to professional environments.
