Storm Claudia to Hit Spain This Week
Storm Claudia will bring over 200mm of rain in western Galicia and raise temperatures above 25°C in parts of Spain, including Andalucía, this week, Aemet said.
- The storm began on Monday in western mainland of Spain and the Canary Islands, with Aemet naming Storm Claudia and warning of rainfall across much of the country.
- Aemet forecasts a weather front moving west to east across the Iberian Peninsula that will spread rain and a slightly warmer air mass from the south will raise temperatures after cooler days.
- In Galicia, models show more than 200mm could fall in the west, while Aemet expects heavy rainfall particularly in the western half of Coruña, Pontevedra and Lugo, with lighter rain elsewhere.
- Aemet warned of strong winds and maritime storm in the Canary Islands, with Claudia weakening by Friday as it moves to Andalucía, Castilla y León, Castilla La Mancha, Asturias and Madrid regions.
- From Wednesday onwards temperatures could rise with a warmer air mass from the south, bringing highs up to 25 degrees in the Mediterranean, Guadalquivir and Cantabrian Sea, while weak frosts persist in the northern plateau and mountain areas.
