A survey of 2,000 Brits commissioned by UKTV found the 1980s topped six out of eight categories spanning music, fashion, TV shows, and catchphrases, marking research tied to Neighbours' 40th anniversary.
Perhaps seeking comfort not provided by modern television, 38 per cent of Brits wish big family TV nights were still everyday life, a sentiment rising to 68 per cent of Gen Z and 60 per cent of Millennials.
Iconic characters stick most in viewers' memories at 45 per cent, while 30 per cent of all generations admire Kylie Minogue's curly perm as Charlene; 42 per cent miss programmes feeling like simultaneous viewing events.
As the first two series return to screens, Tibbetts, director of programming at Scripted, UKTV, noted the show 'quickly became a daily ritual for UK viewers' when it arrived in 1985, turning Ramsay Street iconic.
Gen Z displays particular enthusiasm for retro trends, with 49 per cent willing to wear retro hairstyles and 28 per cent seeking classic storylines they've never seen, positioning Neighbours as enduring cultural memory.
