Texans RT Braden Smith, DE Ali Gaye carted off the field during joint practice with the Panthers
Both players were taken off the field with apparent leg injuries as the Texans’ depth took another hit, and the exact nature was not immediately known.
On Wednesday, Houston Texans offensive tackle Braden Smith and reserve defensive end Ali Gaye were carted off the field during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers.
Both players suffered apparent leg injuries on separate practice fields almost simultaneously, with neither able to put weight on their leg, according to reporter Aaron Wilson.
Smith signed a $20 million deal this offseason to start at right tackle, while Gaye has been competing for a 53-man roster spot as defensive line depth since May.
Veteran Trent Brown is the likely candidate to replace Smith at right tackle, while Solomon Byrd and Derek Parish provide remaining depth for the defensive line.
The Texans were already missing Jadeveon Clowney and Dominique Robinson due to injury, and head coach DeMeco Ryans is scheduled to address the media following practice.
