- At the RE+ renewable energy conference in Las Vegas, Tesla unveiled Megapack 3, updating its stationary energy lineup, during the 'Las Megas' event on Monday.
- To accelerate deployments, Tesla said it will position the products as turnkey solutions and plans to build Megapack 3 at the Houston Megafactory starting in late 2026 with 50 GWh per year capacity.
- Technically, Megapack 3 upgrades include larger 2.8-liter battery cells delivering roughly 5 MWh usable AC energy, a 78% simpler thermal bay, and Megablock offers site density of 248 MWh per acre with "25-year life & >10,000 cycles 91% round-trip efficiency at medium voltage," Tesla said.
- Tesla argues the Megablock enables rapid commissioning, claiming it can deploy 1 GWh in 20 business days, powering 400,000 homes, while Tesla Energy holds a 39% North America market share in 2024.
- Looking ahead, Tesla's supply chain shifts include a $4.3 billion deal with LG Energy Solutions to supply LFP batteries starting August 2027, while BYD and CATL pose competition in the near future.
