Tesco Launches New Age Rule for Shoppers 'for First Time' Coming This Week
The digital card lets teens collect points and redeem vouchers, while parents or guardians must invite them to register.
Tesco launched a digital Clubcard for 16- and 17-year-olds this week, marking the first time the supermarket chain has opened its loyalty scheme to shoppers under 18.
Teens cannot sign up independently but must receive an invitation from a parent or guardian's account; the program is digital-only, accessed exclusively via the Tesco app.
Members gain access to "Clubcard Prices" discounts and collect points for vouchers, with the popular lunchtime meal deal available at the Clubcard price of £3.85.
While the scheme offers savings, teens cannot purchase age-restricted items including alcohol, tobacco, and vapes, which require valid identification for all customers.
Tesco Group Membership and Loyalty Director Shama Wilson stated the retailer is "delighted to be giving younger customers access," aiming to provide benefits as more teenagers become regular shoppers.
