Even More Major UK Retailers Recall Popular Toys over Serious Asbestos Risk

Ireland's consumer watchdog urges returns of sand-filled toys and art kits after asbestos traces found, with multiple major retailers involved in the recall.

  • On Tuesday, Tesco and toy manufacturer Addo Play Ltd announced a recall of the children's To Impress Sand Art Kit, item code 318-19149-B, removing it from shelves.
  • Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said a wide range of Irish retailers have issued an urgent recall of several Stretcherz figures, following UK advice.
  • Tesco advised customers to seal unopened sand in a heavy-duty bag, clean used sand with wet cloths, double-bag waste and return outer packaging to any Tesco for a full refund.
  • The CCPC said it will update the recall notice as more information emerges, following UK advice and monitoring the situation due to asbestos's carcinogenic risk, which is banned across the EU.
  • Amid the recall, Tesco said no other Addo Play Ltd products sold at Tesco are affected at present and customers can request a full refund at any Tesco store or contact ProductRecall@theentertainer.com, +44 116 464 9374, or Tesco Ireland on 1800 248 123.
