Union Boss Defends Speech After Bullet Left on MP's Car
On Saturday, Emergency Services Minister Paul Edbrooke found a bullet on his car bonnet in Frankston, inscribed with "RAT" and his former firefighter identification number.
The incident follows escalating tensions between the Labor government and the United Firefighters Union , after Union Secretary Peter Marshall stated in a video that Edbrooke and Premier Ben Carroll were "in the gun."
Marshall clarified on Monday that his "in the gun" comment referred to the ballot box, while Edbrooke attributed the threat to a "small minority" of union members.
Victoria Police confirmed its Security Investigation Unit is investigating the incident, while Marshall condemned the act "without qualification" alongside Opposition Leader Jess Wilson and Premier Carroll.
This incident occurs amid heightened national concern regarding politician safety following the recent attack on federal MP Helen Haines, with Victoria Police Commissioner Mike Bush stating police are taking a "proactive" approach.
Australian minister Paul Edbrooke says he was chased and harassed after finding a bullet engraved with personal details and the word "smooth" on the hood of his car. The incident comes within a week after Australian MP Helen Haines was the victim of a car attack.
