Ligne Ter Marseille-Nice : a Proof of the Liberal Crusade of Opening up to the Competition of Trains
With new trains paid for by the region, Transdev, on the verge of passing through a German private actor, is on Sunday 29 June the first to operate an open-ended TER line. With the risk of revealing that the SNCF-bassing mainly camouflaged the shortcomings of the state and the regions in terms of investment.
The first TERs entrusted by the Paca region to a private operator for ten years began their rotations this Sunday with new trainsets and attractive travellers.
The TER link between Marseille and Nice will no longer be provided by SNCF but by the French-German group Transdev. The journeys between Paris and Milan or Paris and Marseille have also been opened to competition with the Italian company Trenitalia. The French-German group Transdev launches on Sunday the exploitation of the Marseille-Nice line, the first regional link open to competition.
DECRYPTAGE - From Sunday onwards, Transdev will replace the old lady railway to drive the trains on the Marseille-Nice line. A small revolution, even if opening up to competition in the TERs is moving slowly.
Since yesterday, the private operator Transdev has been operating the Marseille-Nice railway line in place of SNCF. This has been a shock to the world of transport, but the aftershocks are expected to remain limited.
