Tens of thousands march in Amsterdam, pressing the Dutch government on Gaza and Israel
Organizers said more than 200,000 joined the march as protesters demanded sanctions, an arms sales halt and tougher Dutch action on Gaza.
Tens of thousands of protesters dressed in red marched through Amsterdam on Sunday to demand the Dutch government take decisive action against Israel over Gaza, with Amnesty International reporting more than 200,000 participants.
Organizers of the 'Red Line' demonstration called for stricter trade sanctions on Israel, officially declaring that Israel's actions in Gaza amount to genocide and demanding a halt to all arms sales.
'As far as I'm concerned, they are doing nothing,' Mike van Dongen said, criticizing the Dutch government's response, while the Hamas-run Health Ministry reports more than 1,550 Palestinians killed in Gaza since Oct 2025.
Prime Minister Rob Jetten defended his government's actions, stating they are 'exerting greater political and diplomatic pressure' on Israel while simultaneously applying pressure on Hamas regarding operations endangering Israelis.
The campaign in Gaza has strained relations between the Netherlands and Israel since the Dutch foreign minister resigned, compounded by the government's recent import ban on products from Israeli settlements.
