Rune Skips Hamburg, French Open to Continue Achilles Recovery
Rune is delaying his comeback after Achilles surgery and hopes to return for the grass season and Wimbledon, which starts June 29.
On Monday, Danish tennis player Holger Rune announced his withdrawal from the French Open, delaying his return from Achilles tendon surgery until next month's grass-court season.
Rune underwent surgery last October to repair his Achilles tendon following an injury sustained at a tournament in Sweden, keeping him sidelined from professional competition.
"Tough decision not to play the clay season, but the right one," Rune said on social media Monday, adding "can't wait to see you all on the grass."
With the Hamburg ATP event starting May 17 and the French Open main draw beginning May 24, the Dane opted against rushing his comeback on clay.
Rune aims to resume competition during the grass-court season, which leads into Wimbledon on June 29, marking his primary target for returning to professional tennis.
