Ten people linked to hantavirus ship sent to UK to self-isolate
The move is precautionary and aims to ensure specialist NHS care, with officials saying none of the 10 contacts are showing symptoms.
Ten British nationals linked to a hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship are being brought from Saint Helena and Ascension Island to the UK for precautionary self-isolation despite showing no symptoms according to the UK Health Security Agency .
These individuals include cruise ship passengers and medical staff who had contact with confirmed cases and were already isolating before being moved as a precaution.
Authorities say the risk to the wider public is very low, and the UKHSA will continue contact tracing and monitoring of people connected to the ship MV Hondius.
Replacement medical staff have been flown to Ascension Island to maintain healthcare while the clinicians who treated confirmed cases are relocated to Britain as a precaution.
