Freezing Temperatures on the Way in Wake of Storm Claudia
Flood warnings remain active with 45 alerts in England and four severe warnings in Wales as temperatures could fall to -7°C next week, the Met Office said.
- On Monday, the UK Health Security Agency issued a cold-weather warning for parts of the Midlands and northern England while the Environment Agency warned flooding will continue after Storm Claudia moved away.
- As Storm Claudia retreats, Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley said high pressure to the north‑west will drive a cold northerly Arctic flow bringing snow, ice, and wind chill.
- Rain gauges recorded 119.6mm at Tafalog, Gwent, 80.6mm at Suckley, Worcestershire, while River Monnow hit record levels and gusts reached 68mph at Warcop Range, Cumbria.
- Flooding forced evacuations and power cuts, and the Environment Agency reported 20 flooded properties while rail services between Swindon and Bristol Parkway were blocked; Catherine Fookes said `This community is incredibly resilient and kind`.
- The UK Health Security Agency warned of a Yellow cold health alert for the North West from 8am Monday to 8am on Friday , with temperatures possibly dipping to minus 7C and snow expected.
