Alleged Armed Teen Charged over Club Arsons
Police say the suspects used cars and petrol in failed attacks on two nightlife venues as part of a broader arson probe.
Victoria Police arrested two 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old on Wednesday in connection with alleged arson attacks targeting Melbourne hospitality venues.
The trio allegedly targeted three nightclubs on May 4 and 5, ramming a vehicle into Electric Bar and pouring accelerant into a venue, with one offender reportedly setting himself on fire.
Following search warrants in Tarneit, Operation Eclipse detectives arrested the 17-year-old and one 18-year-old at a Maribyrnong shopping centre on Wednesday morning, where police allege the teenager possessed a machete.
The two men remain in custody facing Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday; CBD Acting Superintendent Anthony Vella stated police have "now arrested someone for every arson attack that has occurred against licensed venues in Melbourne's CBD."
Detectives continue targeting crime syndicates behind dozens of arson attempts across the CBD, with police noting some offenders were paid as little as $500 and maintaining increased patrols at entertainment precincts.
