A school resource officer disarmed the teen within a minute, and the father was later listed in stable condition, police said.
- On Tuesday, a 13-year-old boy shot his father outside Tangipahoa Alternative School in Hammond, prompting an immediate school lockdown, according to the Hammond Police Department.
- Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. stated the teen refused to enter the school, leading the father to agree to take him home, but as the car began to leave, the boy fired a shot.
- A School Resource Officer disarmed the teen before he could approach the building, Bergeron said, while a 5 or 6-year-old child in the backseat remained uninjured when the vehicle crashed into a Crystal Street home.
- The father, initially in critical condition at North Oaks Medical Center, is now stable, and the 13-year-old suspect is being processed at the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
- Assistant Superintendent Ron Genco of Tangiphoa Parish Schools confirmed counseling services are available throughout the week, as detectives investigate how the teen obtained the firearm.
