France Overlook Ekitike For World Cup Qualifiers, Akliouche Called Up
Hugo Ekitike missed out on a place in the France squad named Wednesday for the start of their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, but coach Didier Deschamps did hand a first senior call-up to highly-rated Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche.
The middle of OM Adrien Rabiot, removed by his club after an altercation with a teammate, was called on Wednesday as a team from France, as was Maghnes Akliouche, whose first convocation, for the next two qualifying matches at the 2026 World Championship.
Didier Deschamps, who had already nearly summoned Maghnes Akliouche (23 years old) last June, made it his surprise of the re-entry list. But the choice is no coincidence: the staff loves its technique and its volume, and its regularity at the highest level has made him a player followed by the greats of Europe.
