Target and other retailers just pulled these snack mixes over salmonella risk
Target has already pulled one trail mix from shelves, and no illnesses have been reported as the company recalls products out of caution.
Illinois-Based manufacturer John B. Sanfilippo & Son is recalling several snack mixes sold under the Fisher, Southern Style Nuts, Squirrel Brand, and Good & Gather brands due to possible Salmonella contamination from a seasoning ingredient.
California Dairies previously recalled a dry milk powder seasoning ingredient used in the products; although the FDA says batches tested negative for Salmonella, Sanfilippo is recalling them out of caution.
Affected items include 8 oz Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix and 30 oz Fisher Tex Mex Trail Mix, with some products carrying best-by dates stretching into 2027, meaning recalled items likely remain in home pantries.
The FDA advises you not to eat the recalled products and instructs you to return them to the retailer for a refund or replacement; no illnesses have been reported so far.
Teresa Murray, consumer watchdog for the Public Interest Research Group, recommends making recall checks part of your weekly routine, as warnings regarding everyday products do not always reach consumers in time.
