Talarico Rallies as His Texas US Senate Race Against Paxton Enters Final Weeks
Talarico’s campaign says he raised $64 million in the third quarter as he tries to close a gap against Ken Paxton.
On Thursday, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico rallied supporters in San Marcos, Texas, as his underdog bid to become the first Democrat to win statewide in over 30 years enters its final weeks.
The rally follows nine days earlier this month when Talarico was out of the public eye with the flu, an absence that sparked false online conspiracy theories including a claim he sought treatment in Ohio.
Talarico raised a record $64 million in the third quarter, while the Senate Leadership Fund, the GOP's leadership super PAC, has spent over $124 million on ads promoting Republican candidate Ken Paxton.
Now viewed as a real contender, Talarico has distanced himself from President Joe Biden and his own party, focusing his campaign on voters' concerns about rising costs across Texas.
As the race enters its final weeks before Election Day, progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders is visiting Texas this month but will not share a stage with Talarico, underscoring his independent positioning.
