Talarico Raises $64 Million in Third Quarter, More than Any U.S. Senate Candidate
The haul gives Talarico a large cash edge over Ken Paxton as Republican outside groups spend more than $175 million on ads, AdImpact says.
James Talarico raised $64 million in the third quarter, his campaign announced, setting a record for any U.S. Senate candidate in a single period.
Talarico claims the grassroots haul demonstrates energy against a "broken, corrupt political system," with his campaign noting the money is built almost entirely on small-dollar donations.
Ninety-Seven percent of contributions were less than $100, as the haul far outpaces past Texas Democrats including Colin Allred, who raised $30 million in the same quarter last cycle.
Attorney General Ken Paxton raised $18 million in the third quarter, though Republican outside groups have spent more than $175 million to boost Paxton and attack Talarico since September 1.
Despite the record haul, the race remains an "uphill battle" as Elon Musk and the GOP apparatus outspend Talarico 2:1, according to an unnamed Democratic strategist who spoke to Politico.
