The head of the Polish president's office, Pawel Szefernaker, announced on Wednesday that President Karol Nawrocki will not support the government's draft law on the status of the closest person in a relationship. According to him, the draft effectively introduces the institute of registered partnership and brings it closer to marriage. This was reported by the Warsaw correspondent of TASR, according to the PAP agency.
The Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland emphasized that the parliament is currently proceeding with a bill prepared at the initiative of the government, which in fact introduces civil partnerships in Poland.
The president will not consent to the introduction of quasi-marriages into Polish law, said Paweł Szefernaker, head of Karol Nawrocki's cabinet. He believes the pending bills on the status of closest relatives represent a policy of small steps leading to the legalization of civil partnerships and the adoption of children by same-sex couples.
The president wants to talk about the status of a close person, but does not agree to something that is de facto a civil partnership, said Paweł Szefernaker, head of the president's office, on Tuesday.
